ASTM A240 UNS S40900 offers good resistance to atmospheric corrosion and mild corrosive environments. However, it is not as corrosion-resistant as austenitic stainless steels. This alloy has limited heat resistance, It can handle elevated temperatures up to approximately 750°C (1380°F) without significant loss of mechanical properties.

But UNS S40900 exhibits good weldability, and it can be welded using various welding techniques, including gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW), and shielded metal arc welding (SMAW). However, preheating and post-weld heat treatment may be necessary to prevent brittleness and improve the weld's corrosion resistance.

Phosphorus (P): 0.040 maximum

Sulfur (S): 0.020 maximum

Titanium (Ti): 6 x C% min, 0.75 max

Other Elements: Small amounts of other elements such as aluminum (Al), copper (Cu), and niobium (Nb) may be present.
